Service, Subjects, Surroundings, and more

Hello dear readers,

It has been a while since I last wrote, I am really sorry for that. All of a sudden I became pretty busy and I did not manage to write anymore… Right now it is October Break and I have time to write again, which I am very happy about. I have a lot to tell you! In this blogpost I will be talking about an awesome subject we have at UWC Maastricht: Design Technology, and I will tell you more about my Service at ‘Resto Vorkje Prikken’. I would also like to show you some pictures of the surroundings of UWC Maastricht, as I have explored them more. Oh and at the end I wrote some random things about life at UWC ๐Ÿ™‚

What’s going on?!

What’s up people?!

An update on life here at UWC Maastricht. Last week was International Peace Day/Week and UWC Day. Besides attending an interesting speech by Paul Chappell and the International Peace Conference’s event, we took a lot of pictures with our flags and national costumes. I have never really been nationalistic, so first it felt silly to walk around with my flag. This changed quickly though and I became all proud to be Dutch!

School has started!

Hi everyone!ย Welcome back ๐Ÿ™‚

The last time I wrote, was after introduction week and since then a lot has happened. School has started! It was so weird at first, because before it felt like a summer camp. Now I’m beginning to realize that I’m actually going to have to do things like getting up early, homework, and trying to manage my time. In this post I will tell you more about the school life here.

Settling in

It’s sunday night and I’m hanging around with my roommates in our room. We’re cleaning things up and getting ready for our first day of classes tomorrow, after a week full of introduction. A lot has happened, so be prepared for a nice long story ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m here!

Hello everyone!
It’s only been three days, but there’s so much to tell already. I thought I’d do a short update with some pictures, so you kind of know where I’m at ๐Ÿ™‚

First about my room, it is great, not the biggest, but I have a single bed so I’m super lucky. I have very sweet roommates, Roua from Sudan, Joelle from Jamaica and Abbey from Canada. They’re very chill, we can have nice talks and keep our room clean and cleared up together.

Preperation to the max

There wasn’t much time to let it all sink in, because the day after I heard that I was accepted for UWC Maastricht, the Information Day/ Meeting the ‘yeargroup’ Day took place. It was very fun and overwhelming to see most of the 22 others who were selected. Everyone congratulated me for still being able to go. All of them had prepared a presentation to introduce themselves, so everyone got to know each other quickly. They’re all amazing human beings and it has been great preparing to go to the college with them ๐Ÿ™‚

The Selection Process, part 2

The year went by and I applied again in 2015. Despite feeling more confident about myself, as I believed I had improved, the waiting for the email after the online application was one of the nerve-racking things I have ever experienced. When I got the great news, I was of course super overwhelmed and happy. I was invited for the National Selection Day, woehoe! Continue reading “The Selection Process, part 2”

The Selection Process, part 1

About the selection process and how mine went. This post is mostly meant for people who might want to apply for UWC. If you are not one of those people, another blogpost would probably be more interesting for you ๐Ÿ™‚ As I said in my last post, the selection process consists of three rounds: the online application, the ‘Selection Day’, ย and the final interview. Oh by the way, it’s a pretty long story, that’s why I seperated it into two parts.

Dreaming big!

The first time I heard about UWC was quite a while ago, in 2013. Agnes, who was going to UWC Adriatic in Italy, came to my school to give a presentation about UWC. I was truly amazed by all her great stories. Finishing the last two years of high school abroad with students from all around the world, at a college with an inspiring philosophy, was suddenly my dream. Continue reading “Dreaming big!”
